- Quebecor Media Inc. owns and operates a range of media-related businesses including Archambault.ca—North America’s largest, multi-store virtual shopping mall—dedicated to the online retail of French-Canadian lifestyle and entertainment merchandise.
Built on the ATG eCommerce platform, QMI needed to configure its online retail environment as a precursor to the development and launch of Archambault.ca—the first of several virtual storefronts, and Canada’s first francophone gateway to music downloads on the web.

- The Challenge
- Archambault.ca: a robust, customized online music store was to kick off the start of the 2008 Christmas shopping season at Archambault.ca—the success of which greatly depended on the accurate configuration of the mall’s eCommerce infrastructure—so that the Archambault.ca store (also built on ATG) could be integrated smoothly within its platform. This was a three-fold challenge:
- • In an extremely short time frame, ThinkWrap needed to deliver a high performance site that had to work with QMI’s new online brand in time for the shopping season.
- • We needed to exploit the power ATG eCommerce software to engineer the personalized shopping experience QMI wanted to create for Archambault.ca customers. And,
- • We needed to fully integrate the solution into the enterprise CMS to meet client-specific production requests for the Archambault.ca team.

- What We Did
- We devised a configuration plan and architectural blueprint to create a scalable online product environment for all of QMI’s subsidiary properties; Archambault.ca being the first to springboard from this centralized eCommerce platform, and emerge as an independently branded merchant site.Taking the traditional brick and mortar music store experience online—and making it better—within a larger ATG eCommerce framework required several key pieces of functionality, including:
• “One-click” purchase process integration into the mall’s existing shopping cart, enabling Archambault.ca customers to order, checkout and instantly download their music selections with a single click.
• The integration of Archambault.ca into the mall’s “Register once, shop everywhere” capabilities allowing customers to shop at any of the mall’s merchant sites with a single user account.
• Faceted search implementation allowing users to explore, search, and filter content according to product, genre, title, artist, system-generated Top 10 playlists, most frequently downloaded, and by online community ratings.
• Adding Web 2.0 functionality into a traditional eCommerce website for a richer user experience including: user reviews, blog integration, play content-related videos, play audio snippets of music before purchase, and system-generated purchase suggestions based on product selection.
• A customized content management solution with manual zone production, allowing the Archambault.ca team to manage and maintain their site easily—without the risk of upsetting the site’s unique configuration and functionality—to consistently deliver a flawless user experience.

- How We Did It
- The aggressive time frame called for an Agile software development approach, working closely and interactively with all of QMI’s stakeholders, to arrive at an intricate and elaborate solution that would take Archambault.ca to production.
Our deep-rooted knowledge in the complexities of ATG eCommerce software allowed us to work extremely efficiently, cutting the traditional implementation time by over 50%.
Our design team worked closely with QMI to highlight the technological sophistication of this ATG eCommerce solution through a simple, yet equally sophisticated, user interface that needed to cater to the Archambault.ca shopper.
Our strong collaboration with Archambault.ca personnel assured rapid and focused development of the content management solution required for straightforward site management.
